“For years, I bounced around the internet looking for yoga programs for children to use with my own children for fun. My adult yoga teachers would recommend a few things, but admitted that their passion was to teach adults. Periodically, my park district would host a kids yoga class for residents, but my adult yoga teachers were kind of forced into teaching the classes and the format just seemed ‘off.’
Last Spring, my son’s struggles with his legs reached a breaking point for me, as a parent. I was determined to find a solution and every Doctor that we visited (Orthopedics, Rheumatology, Neurology, Neruo-muscular), all had something on their website about the benefits of yoga for children. I did some serious searching then to find a program that I could use at home with my children. While driving to a physical therapy appointment, my son said, ‘I don’t want you to teach swim lessons to kids, I want you to teach yoga to kids to make their leg pain go away.’ Part of me wanted to cry and a light went on in the other half!
That day, I found the Om at Home Program for Parents and quickly enrolled. I also saw a Taste of YogaKids training and within time, enrolled in that, too. My children loved doing the poses in the book and I loved the online modules. I’m so incredibly grateful that my son said those words because I don’t know if I would have come up with the idea on my own. I’m so excited to be beginning this journey today.”
