This event, held in areas around the world, introduces attendees to the YogaKids’ one-of-a-kind way of teaching yoga to children. The YogaKids program is more than just poses. It blends traditional yoga and its benefits with theories of multiple learning styles in a comprehensive, imaginative, and playful approach to education. This revolutionary approach, developed by YogaKids founder, yoga-pioneer/ educator/author Marsha Wenig, has been helping children — along with adults — discover the pleasures and benefits of yoga for over 20 years.
Attendees will experience 2 full days of life-changing love and laughter, led by one of our experienced trainers. They will be introduced to all 14 of the YogaKids Elements, the building blocks of this amazing program. These Elements (Math Medley, Laughing Language, Visual Vignettes… to name just a few) incorporate all the different ways children learn. They combine yoga with reading, writing, science, art, music, games, ecology, philosophy and much more — and thus, create a matrix for learning that’s accessible to all children.
Attendees also will be introduced to the 20 categories of YogaKids poses/activities. The YogaKids program has over 185 poses/activities and the Foundations Training teaches 85 of them. (The others can be learned by joining the Certification track.) Some poses are based on traditional yoga asanas, while many are unique to the YogaKids program. In addition, attendees will learn successful strategies for lesson planning and will have the opportunity to team-teach an original YogaKids class to children. Other topics covered during the workshop include teaching teens, inclusive teaching, and guidelines for teaching a successful YogaKids class.
Foundations Training events are for anyone wanting to give the gift of yoga to children: yogis, parents, teachers, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other child-focused professionals. No yoga experience is required.

TRAINER: Sue Beres
Sue’s passion is working collaboratively with others to lead and inspire the social, emotional, and cognitive growth of students who face so many modern-day challenges. This passion has been weaved into her daily experiences for more than thirty years in the education field. The degrees she holds in Elementary Education, Special Education, and Educational Leadership are just a small part of her foundation. It’s the actual experiences she’s had that have been the most rewarding and have shaped her beliefs that all children have beautiful hearts and lights to shine if we show them how.
Sue was a first grade teacher for ten years; a third and fourth, grade teacher for five years; and a special education teacher for five years. She has spent the last ten years loving her job as an Educational Diagnostician, where she works with a great team to provide student assessment and pull together the best learning plans for those in grades kindergarten through high school.
With her love for learning and desire to live a healthy lifestyle it made sense for Girls on the Run of NWI to be such an integral part of her life. She’s been on their board, served as race director, county coordinator, volunteered as a coach and have been instrumental initiating and sustaining programming for her county since 2010. The dozens of half-marathons and the few marathons she’s run have helped her also experience the empowerment through accomplishment that she teaches the GOTR girls.
Sue started practicing yoga at Dancing Feet, home of Marsha and Don Wenig in 2012, and discovered what a wonderful compliment yoga is to running. It has since flooded her with that same calm and peace she experienced for so many years with her post-run serotonin rush.
The best part of her amazing life is to share it with her husband of more than thirty years. They love spending time together bike-riding, hiking, being with friends, beaching and traveling. Visiting their daughter who lives in Spain and spending time at their condo in Florida are top on their lists. Tim and Melanie are also teachers and her two greatest supporters and sources of inspiration.
She didn’t know it at the time but all these experiences were carving and creating her path to the YogaKids family that she is so excited to join as a trainer. Since she did her Foundations training at Dancing Feet in March of 2017, she was hooked! Sue teaches private lessons and weekly Yoga Kids classes at a local studio. She loves that she can combine creativity with her background experiences to create yoga lessons for kids that integrate multiple intelligences while developing strong minds and bodies.
The most important thing we can teach our children is they have it within themselves to guide their minds, bodies and hearts to healthy joyful living. Sue is honored to share those sentiments the YogaKids way!
