This Level 1 Training is a stand-alone training event AND the first step of our Full Certification track..
Learn all the benefits of Full Certification here.
This event, held in areas around the world, introduces attendees to the YogaKids’ one-of-a-kind way of teaching yoga to children. The YogaKids program is more than just poses. It blends traditional yoga and its benefits with theories of multiple learning styles in a comprehensive, imaginative, and playful approach to education. This revolutionary approach, developed by YogaKids founder, yoga-pioneer/ educator/author Marsha Wenig, has been helping children — along with adults — discover the pleasures and benefits of yoga for over 20 years.
Attendees will experience 3 full days of life-changing love and laughter, led by one of our experienced trainers. They will be introduced to all 14 of the YogaKids Elements, the building blocks of this amazing program. These Elements (Math Medley, Laughing Language, Visual Vignettes… to name just a few) incorporate all the different ways children learn. They combine yoga with reading, writing, science, art, music, games, ecology, philosophy and much more — and thus, create a matrix for learning that’s accessible to all children.
Attendees also will be introduced to the 20 categories of YogaKids poses/activities. The YogaKids program has over 185 poses/activities and the Foundations Training teaches 85 of them. (The others can be learned by joining the Certification track.) Some poses are based on traditional yoga asanas, while many are unique to the YogaKids program. In addition, attendees will learn successful strategies for lesson planning and will have the opportunity to team-teach an original YogaKids class to children. Other topics covered during the workshop include the different developmental stages of children, inclusive teaching, and guidelines for teaching a successful YogaKids class.
Foundations Training events are for anyone wanting to give the gift of yoga to children : yogis, parents, teachers, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other child-focused professionals. No yoga experience is required.

TRAINER: Donna Salusti
A dedicated practitioner of yoga and mindfulness for over 15 years, Dr. Donna Salusti integrates more than 20 years of professional experience in clinical psychology, neuropsychology, and special education in her energetic and supportive teaching style as a YogaKids Teacher Trainer. She came to YogaKids seeking additional training that would provide a child-centered approach to teaching children about the mind-body connection thorough yoga.
YogaKids methodologies were the perfect match for her neuroscience-based orientation toward understanding the benefits of yoga and mindfulness on the cognitive and social minds of children and adolescents, providing kid friendly language, kinesthetic, and visual modalities within which children can learn about themselves, their body, and their relationship to others and the world. YogaKids’ integration of Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences was the natural and brilliant link Dr. Salusti was looking for to support children of all ages.
Dr. Salusti’s expertise focuses on yoga and mindfulness techniques to support self-regulation of emotions and behavior, reduce performance anxiety, increase positive mood states, control attention and focus in positive and productive ways, and increase social pragmatics and problem solving skills. It is true differentiated instruction on the mat and generalizable to the classroom and home settings!! Dr. Salusti’s teacher training will highlight the ways in which YogaKids techniques and methods can be easily integrated by teachers in classrooms and by parents at home to promote curriculum learning, healthy coping skills, and social growth and development in children.
