SHORT DESCRIPTION/TOPIC
Class will explore Pokémon characters. We will practice poses around each of the Pokémon’s powers.
DISCUSSION POINTS
Pokémon Meowth says “We do have a lot in common, the same earth, the same air, the same sky. Maybe if we started looking at what’s the same instead of always looking at what’s different…well, who knows?” We have more in common with our friends. Try to think about that when we might be frustrated with the people around us.
CONNECTING CIRCLE
Children will draw their favorite Pokemon and share what they like about that Pokemon
character. Visual Vignettes
POSES AS PATHWAYS/INTEGRATE THE ELEMENTS
Direction Breath – Quiet Quests
Pokémon Beach Ball (Hot Potato Game) – Using a beach ball, pass the ball around using feet as music plays. Prepare Pokémon flash cards with Pokémon themed yoga poses on them turned upside down in the middle of the circle. The music will play as the students are passing the ball around, when the music stops. The person holding the ball will get to pick one of the Pokémon cards and we will all do the pose.
Pikachu’s Lightning Bolt – Pikachu has electricity in his cheeks, so let’s make our bodies into
the shape of lightning bolts. Did you know that a lightning bolt is only about as wide as our
thumbs? All that energy from the sky comes down in a very small path! Ecological Echoes
Squirtle’s Flow – (Down Diggity Dog to S is for Snake to Child’s Pose) – Squirtle’s shell helps
him move through water quickly, so we are going to flow from down dog pose to snake pose like we are moving through the water. Moving from pose to pose makes our bodies super strong! Can you feel how hard our bodies are working? Body Benefits
Talking Wartortle (Talking Turtle) – Wartortle is a turtle who has many scars on his back
from battle. “I AM STRONG or I CAN DO HARD THINGS or I AM FRIENDLY.” Affirmations
Charizard – Charizard is a dragon that breathes fire. We are going to make fire hands and work with a partner. Let’s all breath fire onto our hands. Can you feel your friend’s energy from their hands? Is it easy to move together or hard? Bridge of Diamonds
Blastoise Blast (Brave Warrior) – Blastoise is a tortoise who fires water bullets. Let’s each pick
up two scarves. Next, we’ll take a big step back and prepare for Brave Warrior. Now let’s shoot
our scarves into the center of our circle.
Mew Two Telepathy Circle (Electric Circle) – Mewtwo can read people’s minds. Let’s use his
powers to share our happy energy with our friends. We can share our friendship energy all
around the room. Bridge of Diamonds. Quiet Quests.
Nine Tales Fox’s Wild Thing (Wheel) – Ninetales Fox can control minds. We can use yoga to
help control our minds, let’s focus and try a challenging pose like Wheel. Challenging poses can
help make our minds and bodies stronger. Brain Balance, Body Benefits.
Seadra’s Spin (Birthday Candle) – Seadra likes to make whirlpools in the water. We are going
to use candlestick to make whirlpools with our toes This pose is a full inversion, which means we are upside down. Being upside down is good for our brains. Brain Balance, Body Benefits
Peechu’s Pose (Child’s Pose) – Peechu is a tiny mouse, when he gets bigger he becomes a
Pikachu. We are going to be tiny little mice on the ground. Placing our foreheads on the mat, we can use two fingers and place them on the sides of our head to create the fun ears that Peechu has. This pose connects us to the earth when we place our foreheads on the mat. It is very important for our bodies to feel the earth’s special vibration. Even though we can’t feel it, the earth is always moving. Let’s be super quiet and still and see if we can feel it. Ecological Echoes, Quiet Quests
Freakier Leaps – Froakie is a frog that jumps really high. Let’s come into a squat pose, like a
froggie. Let’s hop gently around the room from mat to mat. We’ll hop all the way around until we find our way back to our mats! Play Ten Years of Pokémon as you play. Ecological Echoes, We All Win, Musical Musings
QUIET QUESTS
Savasana – While children are resting, place a few drops of essential oils on your hands and
let them breath in the oils. (Get permission before doing so.) They take a few deep breaths
with your hands hovering over them. After Savasana, the children like to guess the scent.
