YogaKids – Educating the Whole Child Through Yoga

$21.95

Marsha Wenig, the founder of YogaKids, has written a beautiful book for use by parents, teachers, and caregivers.

Inspired by Dr. Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences, the YogaKids program treats yoga as a medium for learning, using different ‘elements’ – among them anatomy, music, visual art, ecology, and language – designed to stimulate and teach. When children practice yoga in this way, they are also learning math, reading, science and nature, and much more.

Description

YogaKids Educating the Whole Child Through Yoga presents more than 50 carefully selected poses paired with special activities that stimulate children’s verbal, spatial, and artistic skills. The poses are arranged in groups (Four-Legged Friends, Peace & Quiet, Moving & Grooving, and Shake Like Jelly, among others) that make them easy to remember. The book includes special yoga routines to cover a multitude of common situations (such as calming down, getting ready for a test, or even riding in a car), as well as advice on the benefits and techniques of yoga for children with autism, cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, ADD, and ADHD.

YogaKids is designed for both children and adults to use together. Parents learn the physical and emotional benefits of each pose: Children discover that learning is fun, that exercise feels good, and that taking care of their bodies is easy.
